Ideas For Helping Children Memorize Scripture

Bible Verse Memorizing Examples

For all those out here who have struggled to memorize scripture you are not alone! Just think of adult difficulties amplified by about ten for kids who try to memorize scripture with all that energy packing into their little bodies.

After a little bit of research I found the website Ministry-to-Children.com, where I found some good instructions for ways to help kids enhance their abilities to memorize bible verses.

Because I am a visual learner I have always used a white board to help me learn just about everything, and it got me, thinking that this would also be a wonderful way for kids to not only learn but understand scripture.

With the family sitting around in the living room, one person could begin to write a verse on a white board and then another person can begin to draw pictures of what words in the verse represent. Not only does this give kids more familiarity with verses it also gives them some visual images to help them remember the verse.

Psalm 119:9-1

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
    that I might not sin against you.

I hope we can all hide more scripture in our heart this summer. We welcome any other suggestions for how to help kids learn to hide scripture in their hearts.
