Biblical Art View Free At the Getty Museum

Historical Bible

Yesterday was a wonderful day wandering through the Getty Museum in Los Angeles looking at beautiful paintings that depict Biblical images. It was great to hear the guides explain these pictures to groups of kids, many of them who probably have no understanding of the Bible stories.

There were many paintings that illustrated the life of Christ, his birth, and resurrection. Also because the Gospels were very important in the Middle Ages, there were tons of illustrations of Christian art and worship in manuscript form.

In addition to portraits of the authors of the Bible there were stain glass windows that depicted the Biblical stories.

Grab your family this summer and take them to the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Why not explore all of the ways artist’s have illustrated the Bible stories through the years. There is a self guided tour you can take that will give you even more details about each painting. Oh and did I mention the museum is FREE! Thank you J. Paul Getty.

If you like what you read, check out our children’s book, Hooked on the Bookon this website.  It is great for parents and kids because it provides the Big Story of God’s miraculous plan for His children in all 66 books in the Bible including colorful illustrations, rhymes and a surprise on every page.
