Top 100 Children’s Bible Memory Verses: God’s Creation – The Story Behind Genesis 1:1

God created the worldGod created the world, Genesis 1:1 is a favorite bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind the verse?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.

Most people think the Bible begins in Genesis.  Chronologically, the Bible begins with John 1:1.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  The Word is Jesus and John tells us that before God made anything, God the Father and Jesus the Son were in relationship together.

Now we get to Genesis 1:1.  God spoke and brought into being the heavens and the earth.  Like so many stories begin, “Once upon a time” God created the heavens and the earth.  That is just the beginning of the story.

God was not just interested in a physical world, but in providing a place where man and woman could live and be in a relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

When we say the words of Genesis 1:1, it should bring to our minds the beginning of an incredible journey for mankind.  It all began with a relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and now the universe and mankind has been added to that relationship.

Now you know the story behind Genesis 1:1.

Remind your children that God is creating a new chapter in their personal story every day.
