Cicely Mary Barker

Have you or your kids ever heard of an illustrator named Cecily Mary Barker. Probably not but I’m sure you have seen her fairy illustrations on numerous books. Now check out her website and see that she did lots of illustrations about her Christian faith with Biblical images as well.

Born in West Croydon, Surrey on June 28th, 1895, she began painting at a young age through the encouragement of her father who also was an artist. She was a frail in her physical nature but had a deep passion to have her images true to nature. At nineteen she had her first work accepted for publication.

Using the children from her sister,s nursery school as models, she drew her images with details. Though she is known for her fairy images, she also drew many images about her deep Christian faith. In 1916 she designed eight mission postcards. In 1920 she painted many more Christian images and illustrated a book called the Little Book of Bible Stories written by her sister.
