Children’s Devotions For Lent (Day 39) – The Power Of Jesus’ Words

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts through Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Traditionally, Christians have observed Lent by devotion, fasting, repenting, and giving. We can invite our children to join us as we observe this season, as we prepare our hearts and our lives for Easter.

Thanks to Kimberlee Conway Ireton for her plan that I used to develop these Kid’s Devotions.

When Jesus speaks, new life comes forth in places that have been dead.  Let’s see how Jesus brought life out of death to show the glory of His Father.

Ask the children…

When Jesus came to Bethany His friend Lazarus had been dead for four days.  He ordered that the stone be rolled away from the tomb.  When the people balked at this idea Jesus spoke strongly to them. What would the people see when they believed?

“Jesus responded, ‘Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?'”  (John 11:40)

What happened when Jesus spoke to Lazarus?

“Then Jesus shouted, ‘Lazarus, come out!’ 44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, ‘Unwrap him and let him go!'” (John 11:43, 44)

Even the dead rise when Jesus speaks.  This was the glory of God coming down from heaven to earth and everyone saw it.

Ask your children what Jesus is speaking into their lives?  Stop and have them ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to them what Jesus wants to do in their lives.  This is the listening part of prayer that we often neglect.  If we learn to listen, God will speak and His words will have power in our lives.
