This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Lamentations 3) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: The prophet Jeremiah wrote the book of Lamentations after his 42 years of prophetic warnings to God’s people in the book of Jeremiah and after Jerusalem had fallen to the Babylonians. Lamentations is a funeral dirge for the city written in 5 poems. It is a sad book but in it Jeremiah also provided hope to see beyond the destruction to future restoration because of God’s sovereignty, mercy and grace.
Even though God’s people have been unfaithful, God’s never changes in His love for His people.
Ask the children…
What is God’s love like and how long will it last?
“‘The faithful love of the Lord never ends![b]His mercies never cease.” (Lamentations 3:22)
Along with God’s love never ending, what is it like every day and how does that encourage us to respond to Him?
“Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. 24 I say to myself, “’the Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!’” (Lamentations 3:23, 24)
Even when I am unfaithful, God is faithful. Even when I am unloving, God is loving. Even if I don’t have mercy on myself or others, God’s mercy is new every day.
Ask your children if they know that they can turn to God no matter how they are doing beause God is always in a good mood and ready to love them as His children? Ask them if there is something they might have been afraid to tell God because they were afraid of how He would respond? Take that matter together to God right now and assure them that God’s mercy is new every morning and He is faithful to forgive them and to cleanse them from all wrong doing.
