Background: The prophet Ezekiel ministered for 22 years to the Jews who had been already taken into exile in Babylon while their brothers left behind back in Judah were still rebelling against God. Ezekiel is a man of visions and writes of the judgement that Judah will experience and also God’s promises of restoration.
Ezekiel speaks out prophetically against those who took delight in the destruction of God’s people and their being taken into captivity.
Ask the children…
How were the surrounding nations treating God’s people?
“Because you clapped and danced and cheered with glee at the destruction of my people,. (Ezekiel 25:6)
“The people of Edom have sinned greatly by avenging themselves against the people of Judah.” (Ezekiel 25:12)
“The people of Philistia have acted against Judah out of bitter revenge and long-standing contempt.” (Ezekiel 25:15)
What was God’s response?
“I will raise my fist of judgment against you. I will give you as plunder to many nations. I will cut you off from being a nation and destroy you completely. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 25:7)
The most dangerous place in the world is the place occupied by those who oppose God’s people and God’s plans. No matter how strong and power and wealthy they may be, their ultimate destruction is sure.
Ask your children to look around today for those who oppose the purposes of God? Whether if be nations who persecute christians, or individuals who take advantage of the poor or those who promote their purposes through lying or deception, they are living on dangerous ground. Take a look at your own lives to see if there is any dangerous ground where you are opposing God. If so, take some time right now to confess it to God and to repent and to move from that place.
