Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – August 24, Ezekiel 37, Bringing Life To Dry Bones

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Ezekiel 37) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The prophet Ezekiel ministered for 22 years to the Jews who had been already taken into exile in Babylon while their brothers left behind back in Judah were still rebelling against God. Ezekiel is a man of visions and writes of the judgement that Judah will experience and also God’s promises of restoration.

One of the most amazing pictures in the Bible is the image of the valley of dry bones representing the spiritual condition of Israel and what God instructs Ezekiel to say to those bones.

Ask the children…

What message did God ask Ezekiel to bring to these dry bones?

“Then he said to me, ‘Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6 I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’'” (Ezekiel 37:4-6)

What happened when Ezekiel spoke this message?

“So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. 8 Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them…So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.” (Ezekiel 37:7-10)

The word of God has amazing power to transform lives just like it did these dry bones.  When we speak the word of God out loud, we are bringing heaven’s life giving power to earth to transform broken lives on earth.

Ask your children what brokenness they see in people around them?  Discuss what words they can say out loud regarding these people.  Promises of God, stories of how God has worked in similar situations in the past, words of spiritual warfare against the evil one.  Then speak out loud with your children to bring about the restoration of these loved one;s of God.
