Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – August 28, Daniel 2, God Helps Daniel Interpret A Dream

Daniel Lions Den

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Daniel 2) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The prophet Daniel was taken captive as a youth and brought to Babylon to be trained as an advisor for the king. He prophesied during the Judah’s 70 year exile in Babylon. He confronted pagan king’s regarding God’s worldwide rule, intrepreted dreams and foretold the future.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that bothered him and he asked his advisors not only to interpret the dream but to tell him what the dream was.  The king was furious that not one could do it and he threatened to kill all his advistors.  When Daniel heard about this, he told the king he could do it because God would give him the ability.

Ask the children…

What did Daniel do after he took this great risk telling the king he could reaveal the dream and tell the king what it meant?  What happened?

“Then Daniel went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what had happened. 18 He urged them to ask the God of heaven to show them his mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not be executed along with the other wise men of Babylon. 19 That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven.” (Daniel 2:17-19)

Who did Daniel tell the king allowed him to know and understand the dream?

“ Daniel replied, ‘There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. 28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future.'” (Daniel 2:27, 28)

Daniel didn’t take any of the credit.  He gave all the credit to God.

Ask your children what God has given to them that they can use to help others?  For example, a good mind, strong body, soft heart, special abilities, etc.  Do they give the glory to God for these things or keep any honor they get to themselves?  Take some time to thank God for the things they have received from God and make a commitment that if someone asks them or gives them praise that they will give the praise to God.
