Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – July 17, Isaiah 13, God Said It – That Does It

Isaiah

Isaiah

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Isaiah 13) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The prophet Isaiah wrote this book to the southern tribe of Judah during a time of national emergency. The 12 tribes of Israel had been divided. 10 tribes in the north and 2 in the south (Judah was one of these). Even the tribe of Judah had turned their backs on God and were facing extinction by the cruel Assyrians. In the first 39 chapters are recorded a series of messages that Isaiah preaches over 40 years, to warn the Jews to turn away from their sin and to receive God’s forgiveness and blessing.

In chapter 13 Isaiah turns his words of gloom and doom from Judah to the surrounding nations who have oppressed God’s people.  One wonderful thing we have today is history.  We know the rest of the story.

Ask the children…

What was Babylon like and what was their attitude?

“Babylon, the most glorious of kingdoms, the flower of Chaldean pride.” (Isaiah 13:19)

No one thought Babylon the great would ever fall and they acted like it.  What did the Lord say would happen to them?

“(Babylon) will be devastated like Sodom and Gomorrah when God destroyed them. 20 Babylon will never be inhabited again.  It will remain empty for generation after generation.” (Isaiah 13:19, 10)

And the rest of the story is that Babylon was overrun by Medo-Persian armies in 538 B.C.  No matter how powerful they think they are and appear to be, they are all under the authority of our God.  If He says they will fall, they will fall.  God said it, that does it.

Ask your children if they believe every word that God said?  That means do they really think the Bible is completely true?  That means that every promise in the Bible will come true.  Look up the word ‘promise’ in a Bible concordance or look up the Promises of God on the internet and choose a couple that apply to you.  Claim those promises and choose today to believe that God will follow through on His promises.

Feel free to share your own stories below in the comments section.
