This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Isaiah 24) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: The prophet Isaiah wrote this book to the southern tribe of Judah during a time of national emergency. The 12 tribes of Israel had been divided. 10 tribes in the north and 2 in the south (Judah was one of these). Even the tribe of Judah had turned their backs on God and were facing extinction by the cruel Assyrians. In the first 39 chapters are recorded a series of messages that Isaiah preaches over 40 years, to warn the Jews to turn away from their sin and to receive God’s forgiveness and blessing.
Chapters 24-27 of Isaiah are very similar to the book of Revelation in that they describe the Day of the Lord when God’s wrath comes on the earth and all evil is destroyed and the earth is made new. For some that would be scary indeed but for God’s children it is cause for rejoicing.
Ask the children…
After the Lord’s judgement comes up on the earth, what do those who are left do?
“But all who are left shout and sing for joy.” (Isaiah 24:14)
These are people who have cleansed and covered in the blood of Christ so they have passed out of judgement. Where can these people be found?
“Those in the west praise the Lord’s majesty. 15 In eastern lands, give glory to the Lord. In the lands beyond the sea, praise the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.” (Isaiah 24:14, 15)
In that day, all over the world there will be rejoicing and singing because God has done what He said what He would do, destroy evil and bring out righteousness and blessing to fill the whole earth. It will be the great restoration of what was destroyed by sin in the garden all those years ago.
Ask your children what they know about the Day of the Lord? Read chapters 24-27 to learn about it. Ask them if they are afraid? Remind them that this is to be a great time of rejoicing the Lord and His power and love. Take some to rejoice right now in the coming Day of the Lord.
