This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Isaiah 53) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: The prophet Isaiah wrote this book to the southern tribe of Judah during a time of national emergency. The 12 tribes of Israel had been divided. 10 tribes in the north and 2 in the south (Judah was one of these). Even the tribe of Judah had turned their backs on God and were facing extinction by the cruel Assyrians. In chapters 40 thru 66 (27 chapters like the 27 books in the New Testament) Isaiah now brings messages of hope and declares the message of a coming savior who will set all things right.
In chapter 53, Isaiah gives an astoundingly detailed and accurate account of the death of Christ. He perfectly revealed the future that would take place. See how many details you can pick out.
Ask the children…
What did Isaiah predict would happen to Christ 700 years beforehand?
“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
“He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7)
“He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.” (Isaiah 53:9)
From reading this account from Isaiah, you could swear that Isaiah was there telling the story of the death of Christ. How could he do this? Because God was telling the story to him and God had already been there. There is no past, present or future for God. He is outside of time. He is orchestrating the events of the world to just the right conclusion. He is orchestrating the events of your life to just the right conclusion.
Ask your children if they will give their lives over to a God who not only knows the events of time but demonstrated His willingness to get involved and love mankind by giving His own life for us? Take some “time” to thank God for His commitment to us and then offer every second of your day to Him as your own sacrifice.
