This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Isaiah 65) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: The prophet Isaiah wrote this book to the southern tribe of Judah during a time of national emergency. The 12 tribes of Israel had been divided. 10 tribes in the north and 2 in the south (Judah was one of these). Even the tribe of Judah had turned their backs on God and were facing extinction by the cruel Assyrians. In chapters 40 thru 66 (27 chapters like the 27 books in the New Testament) Isaiah now brings messages of hope and declares the message of a coming savior who will set all things right.
As we come to the close of the book of Isaiah, in chapter 65 Isaiah reminds God’s people that despite their sin, there is a small group of people, a remnant, who have remained faithful and will be blessed.
Ask the children…
Who was God going to preserve and what would they receive?
“For I still have true servants there. 9 I will preserve a remnant of the people of Israel[d] and of Judah to possess my land.” (Isaiah 65:8, 9)
What was the sign of blessing that God would provide?
“The plain of Sharon will again be filled with flocks for my people who have searched for me, and the valley of Achor will be a place to pasture herds.” (Isaiah 65:10)
As we would look for currency ($) as a sign of wealth today, in that day it was livestock. God’s blessing would be seen by the vasts herds that would be in the land. God wants to bless so badly those who will follow Him. It is completely our choice today just as it was in Isaiah’s time.
Ask your children if God has put something on their hearts that God wants them to do or maybe something He doesn’t want them to do. Help them realize that God does this for their benefit and as they submit to God authority in one area in their lives they will begin to experience His blessings in every area of their lives.
