This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Proverbs 18) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The book of Proverbs (wise sayings) is one of the most practical books in the Bible. It is full of timeless teaching for everyday living. In it are approximately 900 pieces of wise advice for young and old.  Solomon wrote most of these proverbs.

Every one of us is incredibly powerful.  Why?  Because we can all speak.  We often forget the power of our words.  They can kill or they can give life.  They can encourage or they can tear down.  Let’s see what Solomon had to say about that in Proverbs.

Ask the children…

What are words like and what do they do?

“Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.” (Proverbs 18:4)

What else are wise words compared to?

“Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction.”  (Proverbs 18:20)

We all know how much satisfaction we can feel after eating a good home cooked meal.  Our words can be like that.  When people hear our words, they can feel incredible satisfaction and happiness.

Ask your children if they understand the power of their words?  Ask them who they know that speaks words that bring satisfaction and happiness?  What do these people say that makes them feel this way?  Ask them how they could share these same kinds of words with their friends and family.

Feel free to share your own stories below in the comments section.
