Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – July 9, Proverbs 31, A Virtuous Wife

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Proverbs 31) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The book of Proverbs (wise sayings) is one of the most practical books in the Bible. It is full of timeless teaching for everyday living. In it are approximately 900 pieces of wise advice for young and old. Solomon wrote most of these proverbs.

The last chapter of Proverbs, Proverbs 31, tells us what to value in a wife in sharp contrast to what the world tells us.  Let there be no confusion…

Ask the children…

What are the most valuable qualities in a wife?

“Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. (Proverbs 31:11)

“She goes to inspect a field and buys it,”  (Proverbs 31:16)

“She extends a helping hand to the poor,”  (Proverbs 31:20)

“When she speaks, her words are wise,” (Proverbs 31:26)

“She carefully watches everything in her household,”  (Proverbs 31:27)

She is trustworthy, industrious, cares for the needy, wise and focuses on her family.  Amongst others, these are the qualities that really matter.  I can say from experience having been married for 28 years that these are the qualities I most appreciate in a my wife.  Outward beauty is wonderful, but you don’t  build a home and a life on it.  I am the most blessed husband in the world because God has given me a virtuous woman to be my wife.

Ask your children what the world would tell you are the most valuable qualities in a woman?  For example, how she looks, how she dresses, is she up on the latest trends and fads, what music she listens to, who she knows.  Now compare these to what God values in a woman and how He designed her to find true fulfillment in life.  Take some time to praise mom for these qualities.
