Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – May 13, Esther 6, Opposing God Will Fail

Bible

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Esther 6) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The book of Esther recounts the story of the events during the captivity of God’s people (the Jews) in Babylon and specifically one young Jewish woman named Esther. The Media Persian Empire is in power under King Xerves at this time. The king is unhappy with his disobedient wife and banishes her. Esther, a young Jewish maiden is selected to be the new queen, but she keeps her nationality a secret. Meanwhile the evil prime minister Haman is angered by Esther’s cousin Mordecai, because he will not bow down when Haman passes by in order to show respect. Haman is so angry that he builds a gallows on which he plans to hang Mordecai .  But God has other plans.

Ask the children…

God kept the king from sleeping so the king ordered the royal records to be read to him so he could fall asleep.  What did God want the king discover in those records?

“In those records he discovered an account of how Mordecai had exposed the plot of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the door to the king’s private quarters. They had plotted to assassinate King Xerxes..” (Esther 6:2)

The king determined to honor Mordecai and just then Haman entered the court room.  The king asked Haman how he thought someone should be honored.  Thinking the king meant to honor Haman, Haman suggested that this person be honored by riding on the king’s horse and being honored in front of the people.  How do you think Haman felt about the king’s real plan?

““Excellent!” the king said to Haman. “Quick! Take the robes and my horse, and do just as you have said for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the gate of the palace. Leave out nothing you have suggested!”” (Esther 6:10)

Haman was humiliated by having to honor Mordecai publicly.  All his plans were coming unraveled.

Ask your children what happens when people disobey God?  Ask them if God will always accomplish His plan no matter what man tries to do.
