Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – May 18, Job 9, God’s Great Works

The Book Of The Bible- Job

The Book Of The Bible- Job

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Job 9) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The book of Job tells the story of a faithful man who feared God. One day Satan (the acccuser) came to God making accusations against God’s people. God suggested that Satan take a look at His faithful servant Job. Satan told God that the only reason that Job was faithful was because God was blessing him. God therefore gave Satan permission to test Job. And Satan did; he destroyed Job’s crops, livestock, servants, houses and even killed Job’s children and finally Satan destroyed Job’s health. Job can’t understand why all this has happened to him, but there is one thing that he understands.

Ask the children…

What does Job know about God?

“He (God) alone has spread out the heavens
and marches on the waves of the sea.
He made all the stars—the Bear and Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the southern sky.”
(Job 9:8, 9))

What does this tell Job about how well he understands God’s workings in this world?

“He does great things too marvelous to understand.
    He performs countless miracles.”
(Job 9:10)

When Job looks at all God has done and is doing, he realizes that the universe is too vast for him to understand.  How can he possibly begin to understand why all these bad things have happened to him?  He will just have to trust that God has an eternal plan even if he cannot understand it.

Ask your children if there are things about their lives or this world that they cannot I understand or that really bother them?   It may be something that has happened to them personally or someone they know or just something they have seen on the knews.  Take them outside tonight and look at the stars or if it is in the morning, go out an look at the sunrise together.  Ask them if they can understand how God has made this all or how He keeps it moving?  Remind them that the same God who made all these things has His hand on the universe and their lives and is working out His plan.  Pray a prayer of trust and thanksgiving that God is who He is.
