This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Job 16) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: The book of Job tells the story of a faithful man who feared God. One day Satan (the acccuser) came to God making accusations against God’s people. God suggested that Satan take a look at His faithful servant Job. Satan told God that the only reason that Job was faithful was because God was blessing him. God therefore gave Satan permission to test Job. And Satan did; he destroyed Job’s crops, livestock, servants, houses and even killed Job’s children and finally Satan destroyed Job’s health. Job realized through his pain that he needed help from someone. Let’s discover who that is.
Ask the children…
Job said that his blood (all his pain) was testifying of his innocence. Who was it testifying too?
“O earth, do not conceal my blood.
Let it cry out on my behalf.
19 Even now my witness is in heaven.
My advocate is there on high.” (Job 16:18, 19)
Job’s blood was testifying to God who could see all that had happened to Job, but Job needed someone to make his case to God. What did Job wish for?
“I need someone to mediate between God and me,
as a person mediates between friends..” (Job 16:21)
Job realized that he needed a mediator. Someone who could come to the Father on his behalf and speak to the Father for him. Sound familiar. All those years before Jesus (our mediator, our advocate) Job realized he needed what Jesus would do. He would die on the cross and take the penalty for our sins and then stand before the Father as our mediator and declare our innocence because of what He had done.
Ask your children if they know what a mediator is? Explain that a mediator is one who goes to someone in authority on our behalf to argue for us. Remind them that Jesus did that for them. Because Jesus has gone before them into God’s throne room, they have complete access to God any time they want. Go into God’s throne room right now and share your hearts with Him. God would love that. That is why He sent His Son.
