Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – May 25, Job 28, Finding Wisdom

Job

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Job 28) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The book of Job tells the story of a faithful man who feared God. One day Satan (the acccuser) came to God making accusations against God’s people. God suggested that Satan take a look at His faithful servant Job. Satan told God that the only reason that Job was faithful was because God was blessing him. God therefore gave Satan permission to test Job. And Satan did; he destroyed Job’s crops, livestock, servants, houses and even killed Job’s children and finally Satan destroyed Job’s health. As Job searches for answers to his predicament, he realizes that he needs something more than answers.

Ask the children…

Job has just spoken about how mankind knows how to find valuable minerals like gold and silver and iron and sapphires.  What does Job say that men don’t know how to find?

““But do people know where to find wisdom?
    Where can they find understanding?  No one knows where to find it,
    for it is not found among the living.”
(Job 28:12, 13)

Who does know where to find wisdom?

““God alone understands the way to wisdom;
    he knows where it can be found,”
(Job 23:23)

Where does God say wisdom can be found?

“And this is what he (God) says to all humanity:
‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom;
    to forsake evil is real understanding.’” (Job 28:28 )

God tells us that to fear (reverence) God is where to find wisdom.  That means that we stop looking to men to tell us what to do and how to think, but to trust in God alone and to put our lives in His hands and to turn away from evil.  That is when we will truly receive the wisdom and understanding to lead a God honoring life.

Ask your children what they need wisdom for in their lives?  Where are they looking for that wisdom?  If it is just from man or from an internet search, they are looking in the wrong places.  The first place to turn to to ask God’s Holy Spirit to give us insight and to search God’s word for the answers.  God will never leave us without the wisdom we need to lead a life that will glorify Him.
