Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – May 31, Job 42, Restoration Of Job

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Job 42) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The book of Job tells the story of a faithful man who feared God. One day Satan (the acccuser) came to God making accusations against God’s people. God suggested that Satan take a look at His faithful servant Job. Satan told God that the only reason that Job was faithful was because God was blessing him. God therefore gave Satan permission to test Job. And Satan did; he destroyed Job’s crops, livestock, servants, houses and even killed Job’s children and finally Satan destroyed Job’s health. After God questions Job’s ability to understand all that God has done, Job finally gets it and is restored.

Ask the children…

What does does Job finally get?

“I (Job) had only heard about you (God) before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
I take back everything I said,
and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
(James 42:5, 6)

What did God restore to Job?

“the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!1 . …So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 13 He also gave Job seven more sons and three more daughters.”  (James 42:10, 12, 13)

Job learned that he didn’t need answers to His questions, he just needed to know God.  And when he realized that, God blessed Job with the restoration of all that he had had previously and then some.  So the closer relationship that Job now enjoyed with God was deomonstrated by the physical blessings God gave to Job.

Ask your children if they have been blessed by God?  Have them name some of those blessings.  Ask them if they know God better than they did a year ago?  How did that happen?  Remind them that this is the greatest blessing they could ever have.
