This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Micah 5) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: Micah prophesied to the northern tribes of Israel. They were wicked and had turned their backs on God. Like many other prophets, along with warnings of impending judgement, Micah provides words of hope for future restoration.
Micah speaks of future events where the Lord will come in power and rescue them and they will no longer fear their enemies. But first…
Ask the children…
Where would this Messiah ruler be born and what origins is Micah speaking of?
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.” (Micah 5:2)
We all know that Jesus the Messiah was born in little, inconsequential Bethlehem of the virgin Mary. He came to be ruler, but was born as a baby. What makes is more amazing is that this is the first coming, the first advent of Jesus bodily on this earth. Jesus was there at the beginning of the world and before. Jesus holds all things together and one day he will return again to rule this world and to bring about justice for all people.
Ask your children if they realize that these prophecies about the Messiah coming were made 700 years before the coming of Christ? Ask your children they know for sure what is going to happen tomorrow, let alone next week, next year and beyond? Spend some time praising God for that He knows everything ahead of time and has told us how the end will come and we will be victorious with Him.
