Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – September 18, Nahum 2, The Flood Of Judgement

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Micah 2) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: Nahum prophesied about 100 years after Jonah prophesied to Nineveh and the Ninevites repented.  Since then the Ninevites have reverted back to their old evil ways and Nahum is sent to preach of their eventual doom.

Nahum prophesies the exact way that the powerful city of Nineveh will meet their doom.

Ask the children…

What is going to happen to Nineveh?

“The river gates have been torn open! The palace is about to collapse!(Nahum 2:6)

What will happen to the city and it’s people?

“Soon the city is plundered, empty, and ruined.  Hearts melt and knees shake. The people stand aghast, their faces pale and trembling. (Nahum 2:10)

And that is exactly what happened to Nineveh.  The city was surrounded and then a river flooded it’s banks and the ciy walls began to fall and the city was destroyed by her enemies.  No matter how strong a city or people appears to be, they are not immune to God’s judgement.

Ask your children if they can think of any group or person or company or country that can get away disobeying God without judgement?  One thing we know is that God’s words will always come true.  We can trust it no matter how unlikely it may be.  The Ninevites thought no one could defeat them because of their impenetrable walls.  But they didn’t take into account the power of God.
