Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – September 19, Habakkuk 1, God Loves Honest Questions

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Habakkuk 1) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: Like many of the other prophets, Habakkuk prophesied to Judah that they would be going into exile because of their wickedness.  In addition to speaking to teh Judeans Habakkuk has some serious questions for God.

Ask the children…

What did Habakkuk ask God first?

“How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! ‘Violence is everywhere!’ I cry, but you do not come to save!(Habakkuk 1:2)

God tells Habakkuk that He is sending the Babylonians to judge His people.  Now Habakkuk has a different question for God?

“O Lord, our Rock, you have sent these Babylonians to correct us, to punish us for our many sins. 13 But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? (Habakkuk 1:12, 13)

Habakkuk knows that the Judeans should be judged, but is God going to do it with the Babylonians who are even more evil?  But God is not afraid of tough questions and asks for Habakkuk to trust Him with His plan.

Ask your children if they have any questions for God?  God loves us to ask Him honest questions.  He just wants us to listen for His answers and accept even if we can’t understand them right now.
