Children’s One Year Study Thru The Bible – September 2, Hosea 4, Destruction Due To Ignorance

Hosea

This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Hosea 4) while we focus in on just a few verses.

Background: The prophet Hosea is called by God to marry an unfaithful wife in order to show the northern kingdom of Israel that she too has been unfaithful to God and has pursued other so called gods. Despite her unfaithfulness, Hosea pursues his wife and brings her back just like God is reaching out to Israel.

Although Israel’s history is littered with stories of the faithfulness of God’s towards His people and forgiveness and restoration over and over, this new generation is ignorant of these critical truths.

Ask the children…

Why are God’s people being destroyed?  Who is responsible for not sharing these truths about God to the people and how is God responding to them?

“My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me. Since you priests refuse to know me, I refuse to recognize you as my priests.” (Hosea 4:6)

How is God going to get the attention of His people?

“Since you have forgotten the laws of your God, I will forget to bless your children.” (Hosea 4:6)

Some of you children probably have the responsibility of feeding your pets?  Have you ever forgotten to do that?  Imagine your parents deciding to forget to feed you dinner if you forget to feed your pets?  Would that get your attention?  God isn’t being mean with Israel, He is just showing them that His blessings flow when they following His plan.   .
