This one year study thru the Bible for kids is designed to hit the highlights and provide practical application. I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Zephaniah 3) while we focus in on just a few verses.
Background: Zephaniah prophesied passionately to the southern tribes of Israel, called Judah. He was constantly looking to the Day of the Lord when the Lord would bring about judgement for those who ignored Him and rebelled against Him. On the contrary, the Day of the Lord would bring about victory, freedom from opression, God’s presence and peace for those who listened to His voice and followed Him.
Although Zephaniah’s message of judgement for Judah if they don’t repent is strong, His message of hope is equally strong.
Ask the children…
Where does Zephaniah say the Lord is and what is He like?
“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
And how does the Lord feel about His children and what does that make Him do?
“He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears.[b] He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.“ (Zephaniah 3:17)
Despite all the rebellion of God’s people, that did not change God’s loving heart towards them. The same is true today. God loves us and is singing joyful songs over us every day. You could not be more loved.
Ask your children if they feel loved by God? Why or why not? What would make them feel more loved? Spend some time telling your children how much you love them. If you can sing a love song to them. Sing “Jesus loves me” together.
