Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs And Ham – A Christian Perspective

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss

Have you ever wanted to tell your kids a great story and use the message to teach them a deeper lesson about God. Check out the children’s book Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham.

Dr. Suess begins his story with one of his silly creature’s named Sam asking a 2nd silly creature “do you like green eggs and ham?” “I do not like them, Sam-I am, I do not like green eggs and ham,” the 2nd silly creature snaps back. And so the story continues with Sam asking the same question over and over in many different ways and the 2nd silly creature saying “No” in many zany ways. Finally at the end Sam and the 2nd silly creature are in a chaotic situation as a result of their crazy adventure and he agrees to try the green eggs and ham. SURPRISE!!!! He likes them and he thanks Sam.

This story reminds me of how God is constantly asking us to accept his unconditional love and we keep refusing. Tell your kids, “imagine with me God being Sam and the 2nd silly creature being us”.  God says, “Would you like me to love you as you study?”  “No!” we scream. “I would not like it!” Then God says, “Would you like me to love you when your frustrated?” Again you say, “No! I would not like it when I study or when I am frustrated”  Till finally at the end of the story when our life is falling apart and we finally let God love us, we realize we love being loved by God and we want to enjoy his love all the time! We think this is a fun way for kids to see how ridiculous it would be to not let God’s love in our life all of the time and how we can thank him for always offering us His free gift of love in any circumstance of our life.

Why not re-write the christian version of this story with your family today!
