Hook: In this easy Bible Lesson the apostle Paul teaches us that focusing on God’s love produces love in us. Many people think that if we focus on not sinning, we will grow, but in fact the opposite is true. The more we focus on not sinning, the more we sin.
Book: “so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,” (Ephesians 3:17) Notice that our grounding, the place we stand firmly, is in the love of Christ. When we are battered by the world’s lies and our desire to do unhealthy things, it is only the love of Christ that will provide us the strength to stand our ground.
Look: “may be able to comprehend with all the [m]saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:18, 19) When we focus on the love of God, what is produced in us? The fullness of the love of God. We are not to focus on the counterfeit, the sin, the works, our inability to do what God wants. We are to focus on the real thing, the love of God that is the most powerful force in the world. One of my favorite Bible verses is “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” that God said about Jesus. Why is it a favorite? Because God said this before Jesus had begun His ministry here on earth. God loved Jesus just because He was God’s Son and not because of anything He had done.
Took: Ask your children if they know how much God loves them? Read the Ephesians 3 passage again and make declarations over each other how much God loves you. Make that your focus for today and see what happens.
