Easy Bible Lessons For Kids in 10 minutes – “Real Repentance”, Acts 2:38

Hook: In this easy Bible Lesson for kids, God tells us that real repentance means to change your mind and to agree with God.

Book: “Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38) After Peter had preached a message about how Christ was truly the Messiah and the One sent by God to take aways the sins of the world, the people were devastated that they had agreed that Christ should be put to death.  So what did Peter tell them to do?  “Repent”.  Agree with God that Christ is God and the savior of the world and then do a symbolic act in line with your new thinking, get baptized.  In that way you will experience the blessing of your new thinking, salvation from sin and receive the Holy Spirit.

Look: “Metanoia”  is the actual Greek word for repentance.  It means literally “meta” with and “noia or nous” think.  So putting that together it means to “think with”.  We would say “agree in your thinking with”.  So agree with God.   So when I chose to disobey God by saying something mean, I am not agreeing with God “to love one another”, I was thinking that I wanted to hurt someone else, make fun of them, tear them down, or get them back.  So I “Metanoia” by telling God that I agree with Him and choose to love that person instead.

Took: Ask your children if there is something that that they need to repent for in their lives?  What was their old thinking?  What is God’s thinking about that?  If you can find a scripture to support what God thinks, that is the best.  Now have them say out loud that their old thinking was wrong and that they choose to agree with God in His way of thinking.  That is real repentance.
