Every Bible Miracle For Kids – Elymas The Sorcerer Is Blinded

Holy Bible

Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts.  Paul miraculously declares blindness on Elymas the sorcerer.  (Acts 13:4-12)

Saul and Barnabus were sent out by the Holy Spirit to preach the words of God.  They went to the island of Cyprus and preached in cities across the island.  When they got to the city of Paphos, they met the governor Sergius Paulus, and began to preach to him the word of God. There they also met Elymas who was an advisor to the governor.

Ask the children?

Why did Elymas interfere with Saul preaching to Sergius Paulus the governor?

“But Elymas, the sorcerer (as his name means in Greek), interfered and urged the governor to pay no attention to what Barnabas and Saul said. He was trying to keep the governor from believing.(Acts 13:8 )

What did the Holy Spirit to reveal to Saul and what miraculous punishment did God give to Elymas?

“Saul, also known as Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he looked the sorcerer in the eye. 10 Then he said, ‘You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the Lord? 11 Watch now, for the Lord has laid his hand of punishment upon you, and you will be struck blind.'” (Acts 13:9-11)

As a result of this miracle what did the governor do?

“Instantly mist and darkness came over the man’s eyes, and he began groping around begging for someone to take his hand and lead him.12 When the governor saw what had happened, he became a believer, for he was astonished at the teaching about the Lord.” (Acts 13:11,12)

Miracles always have a purpose.  In this case it was to punish the deceitfulness of the evil sorcerer and to take away his influence.  In addition the miracles proved the power of God to the governor who then believed.

God is doing miracles every day if we have the eyes to see them.  Ask your children what miracles God has done around them recently?  If they can’t think of any, suggest that everyone look our for miracles every day and report back at dinner time what they have found.  You will be surprised.
