Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. King Herod is eaten by worms. (Acts 12:20-23)
Peter had miraculously escaped his imprisonment by King Herod. King Herod was furious and began to take his anger out on two colonies name Tyre and Sidon. In order to avert his anger, Tyre and Sidon sent some emissaries to gain an audience with Herod.
Ask the children?
What did King Herod do at this meeting and how did the people respond?
“When the day arrived, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to them. 22 The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, ‘It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!‘” (Acts 12:21, 22)
How did Herod respond to this worship and what miracle happened to him?
“Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.” (Acts 12:23)
God is jealous of worship. When men seek to be worshipped by others, look out. Herod paid the ultimate price and died in a horrible way being eaten by worms from the inside out.
In today’s world pride is encouraged. People want to be number one. People want others to worship them. There are whole T.V. shows that just follow the stars of the movies and sports.
God is asking for us to be humble. Ask your children what it looks like to be humble? Ask them to give some examples in their own lives or people they know. Pray with them that when they do things well that they will be able to give the glory to God.
