Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. Peter miraculously escapes from prison. (Acts 12:1-19)
King Herod was persecuting the church and had the apostle James killed. He then imprisoned Peter and wanted to make sure that Peter didn’t escape before King Herod could put him on trial.
Ask the children?
What did King Herod do to make sure Peter didn’t miraculously escape?
“The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate.” (Acts 12:6)
Who came to miraculously free Peter and what did he tell Peter to do?
“Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, ‘Quick! Get up!’ And the chains fell off his wrists. 8 Then the angel told him, ‘Get dressed and put on your sandals.’ And he did. ‘Now put on your coat and follow me,’ the angel ordered.” (Acts 12:7, 8 )
What did Peter think was happening and what miraculous escape did the angel provide Peter?
“So Peter left the cell, following the angel. But all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn’t realize it was actually happening. 10 They passed the first and second guard posts and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him.” (Acts 12: 9, 10)
No one can stop God from doing what He pleases. Man can make laws and imprison believers, but the gospel will still go out and miraculously change the hearts of people.
Do research on some persecuted Christians that are being imprisoned or persecuted in some other way today, and pray for them with your children, believing that God will miraculously open doors for them.
