Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. Philip cast out evil spirits and healed all who came to him (Acts 8:4-13)
When the church was scattered due to persecution in Jerusalem, believers went everywhere proclaiming the good news of Jesus. One of these believers was named Philip.
Ask the children?
Where did Philip go when he left Jerusalem and why were people willing to listen to him?
“Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah. 6 Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did.” (Acts 8:5, 6)
What Bible Miracles did Philip perform there?
“Many evil spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed.” (Acts 8:7)
What was the response of the people to the message and the miracles?
“So there was great joy in that city.” (Acts 8:8 )
So often when we hear the word evangelism (proclaiming the Good News) we feel some level of guilt for not sharing as we should or we imagine grabbing someone by the shirt and jambing a message down their throats. Philip gives us an example of sharing a joyous message accompanied by lovingly meeting people’s felt needs (casting out evil spirits and healing people).
The proclamation of the Good News, need meeting and joy are always supposed to go together. That is God’s plan. Ask your children what they would have done had they saw and heard what Philip did? Have they seen that done in their lives? If you have a story from your work, neighborhood, or have read about one, tell it to your children.
Pray with your children that they have the opportunity to meet someone’s need and can share the greatest good news with that person. Also pray that God would miraculously work through them . Ask God if there is someone that God would want your family to minister to and plan to do it together.
