Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. Saul receives his sight back as he gives his life to Christ (Acts 9:1-9)
Saul was zealously persecuting followers of Christ. He was traveling to Damascus to continue this persecution. Along the way Christ supernaturally appears to Saul and confronts Saul about His persecution of the church (Christ’s body) and therefore, persecution of Christ. Saul is struck blind and is led by the hand to Damascus.
Ask the children?
What did Saul do for the next 3 days?
“He remained there blind for three days and did not eat or drink.” (Acts 9:9)
Who did the Lord send to Saul and what did He want him to do?
“Now there was a believer[b]in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, calling, ‘Ananias!’ ”Yes, Lord!’ he replied.11 The Lord said, ‘Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now. 12 I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming in and laying hands on him so he can see again.’” (Acts 9:10-12)
Even though Ananias was afraid of Saul, he obeyed God. What did Ananias do and what happened to Saul?
“He laid his hands on him and said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ 18 Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.” (Acts 9:17, 18 )
So the same Jesus who caused Saul the persecutor to be blinded, was the same Jesus who gave Saul back his sight and a new life as shown by Saul’s baptism. How many people who do not understand this new life that Jesus offers either reject and/or persecute Christ and Christians. That does not change Jesus’ love for them or His reaching out to them.
Ask your children if there is someone they know that has rejected Jesus? Pray with your children about this person and ask Jesus to speak to them and to use your children, like Ananias, to assist them in their journey to a new life in Christ.
