Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. The Gentiles (non-Jews) receive the Holy Spirit. (Acts 10:34-48 )
After an angel came and spoke to the Roman Centurion, Cornelius, to send men to ask Peter to come to his house, Peter also received a vision that it was allowed for him a Jew to enter a Gentile’s house. This was against the Jewish law. Peter went to Cornelius’ house and preached Jesus and the forgiveness of sins to everyone there.
Ask the children?
When the Gentiles believed this message what happened to them?
“Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message.” (Acts 10:44)
In response to this bible miracle of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Gentiles, what did they do to respond to God’s hand on their lives?
“Then Peter asked, 47 ‘Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?’ 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.” (Acts 10:46-48 )
So now the message of God’s grace and forgiveness was going out not only to the Jews, but also to the Gentiles. God’s people were not only the Jews of the Old Testament who had received the promises of God, but the new covenant (new agreement) was with the Jews and the Gentiles. This surprised everyone.
Ask your children if there is someone they know that they could not imagine coming to know God’s love and forgiveness? Take a moment to talk to God and ask Him to reveal how much God loves that person. Ask God together to open a door like He did with Peter to be a messenger of God’s love and forgiveness to that person. See if God won’t respond and make a way into that person’s heart.
