This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Hebrews 3) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: This unknown author wrote to the Jewish christians who were scattered everywhere and were facing persecution for their faith. Many were considering renouncing their faith and to return back to the safety of Judaism. The author exhorts them to remain true to Christ because He is in every way superior to their old Jewish legal system.
The Hebrews were constantly looking back at the ‘good old days’ and wishing that Moses would return and lead them. The writer of Hebrews explains that Christ is much better than Moses.
Ask the children…
What was Moses in God’s house (The tabernacle or tent of meeting where the priests met with God)?
“Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later.” (Hebrews 3:5)
What was Christ’s role in God’s house (The entire kingdom of God here on earth and in heaven)?
“But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house.” (Hebrews 3:6)
So who is worthy of more honor, Jesus or Moses? Jesus represents God’s grace and mercy and a free relationship with God whereas Moses represents the law and a relationship based upon obedience. Which is better?
Ask your children which relationship they want with God, one based upon grace and forgiveness or one based upon the law? Why? Honor Jesus right now by praising Him for ushering in a better covenant (relationship with God).
