This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Hebrews 10) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: This unknown author wrote to the Jewish christians who were scattered everywhere and were facing persecution for their faith. Many were considering renouncing their faith and to return back to the safety of Judaism. The author exhorts them to remain true to Christ because He is in every way superior to their old Jewish legal system.
Instead of going back to the old covenant which kept people under the law and regular sacrifices for sin, the Holy Spirit testified that God had ushered in a new covenant. This was a much better covenant. Why was it better?
Ask the children…
The law was previously written on tablets of stone, where is it now under the new covenant?
“I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” (Hebrews 10:16)
In the new covenant, what has God done with our sins?
“I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.” (Hebrews 10:17)
When God saved us and made our spirit alive, he changed our hearts so that our desire would be to obey Him and love Him. That is the essence of what the law was all about but now it is in us. Furthermore, we are no longer under a judgement for sin because our sin has been done away with. God doesn’t even remember our sin. Hallelujah!
Ask your children if they feel beat up over things they have done wrong in the past? If we are created in God’s image and we are to think like Him, should we be remembering our sins and feeling judged for them? Take some time to thank God for His complete forgiveness and ask Him to let you forget your sins the way He does so you can be completely free.
