Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – December 14, Hebrews 12, “Running The Race”

So This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Hebrews 12) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: This unknown author wrote to the Jewish christians who were scattered everywhere and were facing persecution for their faith. Many were considering renouncing their faith and to return back to the safety of Judaism. The author exhorts them to remain true to Christ because He is in every way superior to their old Jewish legal system.

All of us whether we like to physically run or not are in a race. It is the race of life.

Ask the children…

How do we run this race of life well?

“let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

Who do we learn from in order to run this race well?

“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.[ (Hebrews 12:1)

If we want to run well we look to the Jesus who ran every day of His life well.  He did not carry with Him anything that could weigh him down like a home or extra clothes or any earthly possessions. He totally devoted Himself to doing the Father’s will and did not have any sin.

Ask your children what hinders them from running the race well? Are there areas where they could they could follow God’s plan for them more faithfull so they can win the race?
