So This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (James 2) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: James writes to Jewish believers to encourage them to unite their actions with their faith. True faith will show itself by it’s actions.
James answers an argument between those who say they have faith and those who have good deeds.
Ask the children…
Who was in the argument about true faith?
“Now someone may argue, ‘Some people have faith; others have good deeds.'” (James 2:18 )
What did James say about true faith?
“But I say, ‘How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.’” (James 2:18 )
You have heard it said that “don’t tell me, show me”. James felt the same way. Don’t just talk about your faith and how strong it is but show me how much you believe by what you do.
Ask your children if they think their faith is matched by what they do? For example, do they love others like they say they do? Do they forgive like they say to do?
