Background: John wrote this third letter to his dear friend Gaius to commend him for his faithfulness.
How wonderful it must have been for Gaius to get this letter from his friend John and all his encouragement.
Ask the children…
How were Gaius and his fellow christians teaching traveling teachers (missionaries)?
“Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you.” (3 John 1:5 )
Why should the believers support these teachers?
“For they are traveling for the Lord,[c] and they accept nothing from people who are not believers.[d] 8 So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.” (3 John 1:7)
These traveling teachers went out completely by faith, trusting that God would provide for their needs through fellow believers. Also, the believers who support these missionaries become part of their teaching ministry as these teachers go out to other people. What a blessing.
Ask your children who is teaching them the word of God? Sunday school teachers, parents, others. How can they bless these teachers? Cards, phone calls, thank you’s, money if these teachers are traveling. Make a plan with your children to partner with these teachers.
