Background: The apostle John has been exiled to the island of Patmos. There Jesus appears to him and instructs him to write a letter to the churches. Jesus gives instruction to each of the churches individually and then shares with them a vision of what is to come in the end times, judgement upon the earth, the final destruction of satan’s forces and the beginning of a new heaven and new earth.
During the great 7 year tribulation, there will be two witnesses who God uses to do amazing things as a testimony to His authority and power.
Ask the children…
What does God give to these witnesses, how do they appear and how long do they minister?
“And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.” (Revelation 11:3)
How does God protect them and what minstry do they do?
“If anyone tries to harm them, fire flashes from their mouths and consumes their enemies. This is how anyone who tries to harm them must die. 6 They have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall for as long as they prophesy. And they have the power to turn the rivers and oceans into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.” (Revelation 11:5, 6)
When the powers of evil seem overwhelming, God provides two witnesses, two men, to stand in Jerusalem and testify to the power of God through their words, their actions and because no one can harm them. All the evil armies of the earth cannot defeat these two unarmed men.
Ask your children why these two witnesses were so powerful? What did God want them to do? Ask your children if they sometimes feel like evil is winning in the world? Are they enouraged by this passage? How?
