This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (2 Timothy 4) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: Young Timothy had traveled with Paul on his second missionary journey. Paul then left Timothy behind to shepherd the church at Ephesus. This second letter to Timothy instructs him to hold fast to the Word and to keep teaching it no matter what.
There are many times that the Word of God may not be appreciated by many when it is preached.
Ask the children…
When was Timothy to preach the word?
“Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
How was this preaching supposed to impact people?
“Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
Paul knew that a time was coming when many people would prefer myths to the truth of God’s word. Sound familiar? We see that today in our culture.
Ask your children what myths there are that people prefer instead of God’s word? Myths like there are no consequences for your actions, worldly riches bring happiness, fame is more important than character, you don’t need God – just be a good person. Just turn on any T.V. show or movie or pick up many popular books and you will find these myths. No wonder people can’t stomach the truth of God’s word. It goes against everything they being exposed to.
