This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Titus 1) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: Paul left Titus to organize the church on the wild island of Crete. This was a rough group and Paul wrote to provide Titus instruction on how to raise up the various members of the church.
Paul specifically addresses the qualities that church elders were to exhibit.
Ask the children…
How is an elder to treat his wife?
“An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife.” (Titus 1:6)
What are his children to be like?
“and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious.” (Titus 1:6)
If you want to know the character of a man, just look at his family life. How does he treat his wife and how well behaved are his children and do they love Jesus? If it is not happening well at home, a man will not be a good leader in the church.
Ask your children how they would describe their own family? Relationship of mom and dad? How they act as kids? What does that say about the leadership at home? Don’t sugar coat it with your kids. They know what is going on. Ask them how you as a mom or dad is doing in your role of spiritual leadership? You might be surprised by what you hear.
