Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – February 1, Leviticus 1, “Personal Sacrifices”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Leviticus 1) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Leviticus is all about keeping God’s people in the right relationship with God and one another through offerings, sacrifices and rules of conduct.  In order to guide the carrying out of these instructions God provided priests, or Levites, to teach the people and to devote themselves to following God’s laws.

It is amazing how God spoke directly to Moses and gave him instructions.

Ask the children…

Where was God calling to Moses from and what did He say?

“The Lord called to Moses from the Tabernacle[a] and said to him, 2 ‘Give the following instructions to the people of Israel.’” (Leviticus 1:1, 2)

What was God’s first instruction?

“When you present an animal as an offering to the Lord, you may take it from your herd of cattle or your flock of sheep and goats.” (Leviticus 1:2)

So the people were to get their sacrifices to the Lord from their own flocks.  That means that these sacrifices were to cost them something.  God is pleased when we offer something to Him that shows that we value our relationship with Him more than we do our own comfort on earth.

Ask your children what offerings to the Lord mean to them?  What do they regularly give to God?  Their worship, money, time, their gifts?  Are these offerings costing them something and are they from the heart?  Ask God to give you a heart that wants to give freely and sacrificially to the Him.
