Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – February 19, Numbers 34, “Confident Commands”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Numbers 34) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Numbers begins one year after the Exodus from Egypt and records the Israelites refusal to go into the Promised Land after only 11 days of their journey and therefore the divine discipline of wandering for 40 years in the wilderness until the old generation dies out and an entirely new generation is raised up. The book of Numbers gets its name from the two censuses that are taken, one of the old generation and one of the new generation.

God gave Moses some amazingly confident commands regarding what what would happen when His people entered the Promised Land.

Ask the children…

How confident was God that His people would take over the Promised Land (Canaan)?

“Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 ‘Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you come into the land of Canaan.'” (Numbers 34:1, 2)

It wasn’t a question of if you will come into the land, but when.  Why was God so confident?  How did God show His confidence?

“‘which I am giving you as your special possession, these will be the boundaries.’” (Numbers 34:2)

God was confident because He knew His own ability to fulfill His promise.  He had promised His people that He would give to them this Promised Land.  He was so confident that He told Moses what the boundaries would be for each of the 12 tribes.

Ask your children how confident they are in God’s promises?  Do they start a project or a prayer as though it has already happened?  That is the confidence that God calls us to.  Think about a project or prayer request that you have and begin to speak out loud to God as though it has already happened.  See what that does for your confidence.
