Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – February 20, Deuteromomy 1, “The Lord Will Fight For You”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Deuteronomy 1) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Deuteronomy is the fifth and last book that Moses wrote and its name in means ‘second Law’.  Moses is about to die and he addresses a new generation of God’s people.  Moses gives a series of sermons to remind them of God’s faithfulness and to exhort them to trust and obey God when they enter the land so that they will enjoy His blessings.

In his first sermon, Moses reminded this new generation of the most important truths about entering the land where there are powerful enemies.

Ask the children…

Who would fight for God’s people when they encountered enemies in the Promised Land?

“But I said to you, ‘Don’t be shocked or afraid of them! 30 The Lord your God is going ahead of you. He will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt.’” (Deuteronomy 1:29, 30)

Why did Moses say that God’s people should be confident that God would take care of them?

“And you saw how the Lord your God cared for you all along the way as you traveled through the wilderness, just as a father cares for his child. Now he has brought you to this place.” (Deuteronomy 1:31)

When God’s people came up against giants in the land, they would need to place their trust in God to fight for them rather than to look at their own abilities.  Moses gave them a reminder of God’s faithfulness and how they could trust in Him.

Ask your children how they would feel if they had to fight a giant?  Do they have anything in their lives that feels like they are fighting a giant?  How do Moses’ words provide them with confidence that God will fight for them?  Ask God to provide you the faith to trust Him to fight your giants.
