Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – February 21, Deuteronomy 4, “Remember Who You Are”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Deuteronomy 4) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Deuteronomy is the fifth and last book that Moses wrote and its name in means ‘second Law’. Moses is about to die and he addresses a new generation of God’s people. Moses gives a series of sermons to remind them of God’s faithfulness and to exhort them to trust and obey God when they enter the land so that they will enjoy His blessings.

Moses knew that when God’s children, the Israelites, came up against large obstacles as they entered the Promised Land, they would forget who’s they were.  Moses gave a sermon to remind them.

Ask the children…

What did Moses encourage the Israelites to remember?

“Remember that the Lord rescued you from the iron-smelting furnace of Egypt in order to make you his very own people and his special possession,” (Deuteronomy  4:20)

Moses wanted to God’s people not to think that this was only true in the past but it is true _______?

“which is what you are today.” (Deuteronomy 4:20)

God has never changed in His approach to His people.  He has always loved them and taken care of them because they are His special possession.  That is still true today.  If you are one of God’s children by believing in Jesus, you are a special possession of His.  That is who you are.  Nothing can take that away.

Ask your children what makes them feel special about being in God’s family?  For example, that they can talk to God any time and He will hear them, that they are loved by other members of God’s family, that they have angels who are taking care of them, that Jesus is praying for them, etc.  Spend some time telling God how special you feel. If they don’t, spend some time asking God to reveal how special they are.
