This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Deuteronomy 29) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Deuteronomy is the fifth and last book that Moses wrote and its name in means ‘second Law’. Moses is about to die and he addresses a new generation of God’s people. Moses gives a series of sermons to remind them of God’s faithfulness and to exhort them to trust and obey God when they enter the land so that they will enjoy His blessings.
As Moses renews the covenant (agreement) with Gods’ people before they enter into the land, there is one parcticular thing he wants them to remember.
Ask the children…
What did Moses remind God’s people that God had done for them over what period of time?
“For forty years I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out. 6 You ate no bread and drank no wine or other alcoholic drink, but he gave you food .” (Deuteronomy 29:5, 6)
What was it that they were supposed to conclude as a result?
“so you would know that he is the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 29:6)
For all the amazing things that the Lord had done for the Isaelites (even their shoes and clothes didn’t where out, God fed several million people every day) the one thing God wanted them to remember was that He is their Lord. They could forget everything else, but that was the one thing they needed to remember. God is on their side. They can trust Him and follow Him no matter what.
Ask your children how it would feel not to have your clothes or shoes where out? It might not be pretty if they grow up and their pants are too short and their shoes too small. 🙂 Can they trust that the Lord is their God and is on their side no matter what?
