This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Leviticus 9) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: God inspired Moses to write the first five books in the Bible. The book of Leviticus is all about keeping God’s people in the right relationship with God and one another through offerings, sacrifices and rules of conduct. In order to guide the carrying out of these instructions God provided priests, or Levites, to teach the people and to devote themselves to following God’s laws.
The most valuable thing in this world is the glorious presence of God in our lives. God wanted that so badly for His people that He gave them the plans for the Tabernacle in which He came to dwell and then asked them to do something.
Ask the children…
What did God call the people to do in order for His presence to be amongst them?
“So the people presented all these things at the entrance of the Tabernacle,[b] just as Moses had commanded. Then the whole community came forward and stood before the Lord.” (Leviticus 9:5)
The people brought the prescribed offerings from all that God had provided them and then they presented themselves to the Lord. What did Moses say would happen as a result?
“And Moses said, ‘This is what the Lord has commanded you to do so that the glory of the Lord may appear to you.'” (Leviticus 9:6)
And when they did this the glory of the Lord came into the Tabenacle. Fire blazed forth and burnt up the offerings they had brought to Him. When this happened the people shouted with joy and fell face down on the ground. What a joy it is today that we can have God’s presence in our lives. We are His Tabernacle and He is always ready to come into a heart that has given itself to God. That is what God desires of us, a willing and open heart to Him. Then we will experience His glorious presence in our lives.
Ask your children how they would have felt if they experienced what the Israelites did when they saw God’s glorious presence fill the Tabernacle? Have they ever experienced this in their lives? Put on some worship music and then take some time to cry out to God and give yourselves and everything you have to God and ask for His presence to come into your hearts. Then see what happens.
