Free 5 minute Kid’s Devotional, One Year Bible Study – January 10, Genesis 26, “Generational Blessing”

This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Genesis 26) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.

Background: God inspired Moses wrote the first five books in the Bible. The very first book, Genesis, emphasizes beginnings. Beginning of the world and mankind, beginning of sin (man’s disobedience to God) and the beginning of God’s special nation.

God made a promise to Abraham that through his descendants all the world would be blessed.  God in His faithfulness made this same promise to Abraham’s son Isaac.

Ask the children…

What were the promises that God reconfirmed to Isaac?

“I hereby confirm that I will give all these lands to you and your descendants,[a] just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father. 4 I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 26:3, 4)

Why did God make this promise to Isaac?

“I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions. (Genesis 26:5)

Because of Abraham’s faithfulness, God gave this promise not only to Abrahma, but also to his son Isaac.  The faithfulness of one generation blessed the next generation and on and on.

Ask your children if they know any stories of the faithfulness of their grandparents or their parents or some other significant influence on their family?  Share some stories of family faithfulness.  If not, remind your children that they can be the beginning of a generation of faithfulness to bless their descendants.  Spend some time in praise for those who have gone before them and blessed them and then commit yourselves to be a generation of blessing for others who will come after.
