This free one year kid’s devotional study thru the Bible is designed to hit the highlights, provide practical application and requires no preparation. If you have a little more time, I encourage you to read the whole section of scripture (Genesis 41) while we focus in on just a few verses in 5 minutes.
Background: God inspired Moses wrote the first five books in the Bible. The very first book, Genesis, emphasizes beginnings. Beginning of the world and mankind, beginning of sin (man’s disobedience to God) and the beginning of God’s special nation.
Joseph had been sold into slavery by his brothers and eventually ended up in jail in Epypt. There he interprets a dream for Pharaoh’s former cup-bearer. His interpretation comes true and the cup-bearer is restored to his position. Some time later the Pharoah has two dreams that no one can interpret. The cup-bearer remembers Joseph and he is brought to Pharaoh and he interpet’s Pharaoh’s dreams.
Ask the children…
What does Pharaoh think about Joseph?
“Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are.’” (Genesis 41:39)
What position does Pharaoh give to Joseph?
“You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.” (Genesis 41:40)
From slave to second in command in Egypt, what a change for Joseph. And why? All because Joseph was faithful to God. But this honor did not happen overnight. Joseph spent 13 years in slavery before Joseph was honored by Pharaoh. Joseph had to be patient and trust God.
Ask your children if they are working towards something that is very difficult to wait for? Joseph didn’t even know what he was waiting for, he just had to trust God that there was something good that would come of this. Isn’t it amazing how God brought Joseph all the way from being in prison to second in command in Egypt. Thank God for His goodness and power and tell Him that you trust Him with what you are waiting for.
